Lutheran Grants

Our goal is to build and sustain community networks that promote spiritual, mental and physical well-being—and we believe it should start with the church. Through Lutheran grants, we partner with our Lutheran churches, schools and ministries in northeast Indiana. Special consideration is given to programs that address mental and behavioral health and wellness.

Funding Criteria

  • Applications must be a minimum of $1,500.
  • Applications requesting funding at 100% of the total cost are not considered.
  • Applications for technology: will consider up to 50% of the total cost.
  • Applications for mission trips (click here to review the complete Mission Trip Policy): 
    • Regional mission trip - up to $200 per person within TLF's 10-county area in northeast Indiana.
    • Domestic mission trip - up to $400 per person to anywhere in the United States.
    • International mission trip - up to $600 per person to anywhere outside the United States.
  • Applications for conference attendance: will consider up $1,000 per person, not to exceed 50% of the total cost.
  • Applications for new staff positions:
    • Year 1: Will consider at 75% (salary, benefits and initial start-up)
    • Year 2: Will consider at 50% (salary and benefits)
    • Year 3: Will consider at 25% (salary and benefits)
    • The intent is for the organization to continue the position beyond the third year.
  • Applications for capital funding:
    • Will consider on a matching basis only.
    • Will consider up to $300,000, not to exceed 50% of the total cost.
    • Only one application can be submitted per project (multiple phases are one project).
    • Project must begin within one year of approval date.

The Lutheran Foundation has a passion for equipping the church to offer help, hope and healing to people living with mental illness. We do that by offering grants to Lutheran church programs that advance mental wellness and reduce the stigma around mental illness.

Grants may be also considered for mission activities such as outreach programming, missions trips, servant events, community and neighborhood outreach efforts, and training opportunities, as well as for ministry enhancement such as strategic planning, technology upgrades, and the addition of new ministry staff.

Fall: Applications are due September 1 (noon); Decisions are made by December 15.
Spring: Applications are due March 1 (noon); Decisions are made by May 31.
Summer: Applications are due June 1 (noon); Decisions are made by August 31.

If the grant deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, it is extended to the next business day at noon.

Notification of the grant decision will be emailed by the 10th of the following month.

The Lutheran Foundation desires to equip the Lutheran schools in our region with resources to provide counseling services and mental health support for students and their families through Lutheran School grants. We will continue to encourage, promote and support a variety of Lutheran educational endeavors that help to advance excellence in Lutheran education.

          Lutheran School Support Grants encourage each school to grow their endowment for long-term sustainability. These grants are available one time each year.

            Lutheran Ministry grants give us an opportunity to support mental health ministries that extend beyond the work that takes place in our congregations and schools. Through these grants, The Lutheran Foundation supports mental wellness programs that reduce the stigma around mental illness, advance the mission of the church at large and extend the gospel through these Lutheran ministries.
