Lutheran education is alive and well on the south side of Fort Wayne, thanks to the efforts of four congregations to merge three schools Unity, Bethlehem and Zion Academy, into one school at the Unity site. The new Lutheran South Unity School opened its doors this past August with K-8th grade classes and 206 students and counting. “Declining enrollment at the individual schools meant that students were not always grouped together according to grade level,” explains school principal, LuAnn LeBeau. “Now, we are able to offer a richer curriculum for each grade and many more opportunities for our students.” According to LeBeau, students have daily devotion time, weekly chapels and religious instruction, as well as the high level of academic education required to prepare students for Concordia Lutheran High School. Lutheran South Unity School is helping to preserve a tradition that is dear to all Lutherans—building strong minds and strong faith in a Christ-focused environment.
