St. Martin’s Healthcare

Caring for DeKalb County.

Four years ago St. Martin’s Healthcare became the only health care clinic serving the uninsured in DeKalb County. Under the guidance of Executive Director Tammy Stafford, St. Martin’s 40 volunteer doctors and dentists along with 168 volunteers provide free health and dental services to a rapidly growing number of people. Said Stafford, “In August of 2008, we had 372 patient visits, and in August of 2009, more than 600 patients came through our doors.” Currently, St. Martin’s Healthcare is a part-time clinic, with limited hours four days per week, and Stafford is assessing the possibilities of expanding to full-time, similar to Matthew 25 Health & Dental Clinic in Fort Wayne. “We have worked closely with Matthew 25 to learn how to utilize the resources we have to serve the greatest number of people,” said Stafford. The Lutheran Foundation is proud to support the important work of both St. Martin’s Healthcare and Matthew 25. Each day, they answer God’s call to serve those in need.
